There are approx 20 million trees which make up the Royal Forest of Dean including oak, beech, ash, birch and holly trees. The Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is heavily wooded
and actually right beside us is an ancient Meend or Common so you can appreciate that we are surrounded by wildlife.

We see Foxes, hedgehogs, grey squirrels, deer and the occasional wild boar and, of course rabbits, wood mice, toads and bats.

Our garden supports a variety of wild life and so you will not find it all manicured but hopefully a combination of growing and mature trees, wild areas as well as flowerbeds and shrubs all part of our eco-system, helpi
ng to attract insects, butterflies, birds and mammals.

John cuts the hedges out of the breeding season and we have an area for wild flowers and nettles. We have created a natural pond in the garden. This has already attracted newts, toads, frogs and dragonflies and is a regular bird bath and drinker all year round. Although we haven't seen them deer have left footprints so they also use it for drinking.
There are seats around the pond where you are welcome to sit and watch the wildlife during your stay.

You will find log and bracken piles in the garden and fields - good hiding places for all sorts of things, wrens, stoats, hedgehogs, insects, to name just a few. We have a lacewing sanctuary.

We try to garden without the use of chemicals and use the goats to eat the weeds but have to be careful as they just love my plants as well!
