Animals
The Forest of Dean has 3 types of deer roaming - fallow deer, roe deer and muntjac deer. They are also in the Wye Valley ANOB areas as well . Wildlife rangers organise deer safaris in February and October if you would like to learn more about deer.
We get fallow and roe deer on the common near us and it is the fallow deer that pay such dedicated attention to my plants! take a look at the photo I took one morning whilst having breakfast
There are wild boar in the forest and you can see the grass verges all dug up where they have been feasting.
We regularly see Badgers, Foxes, Grey squirrels and lots of moles, voles and field mice. Across the way from us there are dormice in the woods.
Lesser Horseshoe and Greater Horseshoe bats can be spotted in the Wye Valley and around Steep Meadow there are Common Pipistrelle bats which flit about at dusk.
