The Severn Bore is a large surge wave that can be seen in the estuary of the River Severn.
Here the tidal range is the 2nd highest in the world, and can be as much as 50 feet (approx. 15.4m). Only being beaten (couple of feet) by the Bay of Fundy in Canada .
It is remarkable not only for the sight and sounds of the Bore but the huge quantity of water that follows the bore up the river.
We have watched it in daylight and night time - when it has an very eerie quality as you hear the sound of the huge volume of water as it rushes past.
It is possible to see it begin at Newnham on Severn and then get in the car and drive to Minsterworth and see it again when it has grown in size.
This year in 2010 there will be some 4 and 5 star bores which are well worth experiencing!
